Round table, VR demo and Community workshop at Geelong Design Week 2020

Tuesday, 24 March 2020, National Wool Museum, Geelong

The team of researchers from Deakin’s School of Engineering, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and School of Communication and Creative Arts in collaboration with the City of Greater Geelong, Geelong Gallery, Geelong Library and Heritage Centre, and the National Wool Museum are investigating how immersive experiences like virtual reality empower local communities to think differently about our heritage. This project has been helped by funding from SSN’s Interdisciplinary Project Incubator Grant.

The results of community online surveys and stakeholder interviews about local design and manufacturing in Geelong and the potential for a future digital presentation about Geelong’s history of invention will be presented and discussed at the round table on the 24th of March 2020, at the National Wool Museum. The event will be accompanied with a work-in-progress immersive VR experience of the iconic local invention the Ford Ute (1934) and a participative design community workshop.

The event is part of Geelong Design Week 2020, an initiative of Geelong UNESCO City of Design and the City of Greater Geelong.
