Shaping your project and finding funding: an RDA and SSN workshop for Deakin Researchers

Join us for a dynamic and interactive workshop designed to equip you with the strategies and insights needed to secure funding for interdisciplinary research projects. Whether you are navigating the complexities of cross-disciplinary collaboration or refining your grant proposals for maximum impact, this session will provide expert guidance, practical tips, and real-world examples to elevate your funding applications.
The workshop will be divided into two parts:
10-11:00AM Presentation
11-12:00PM Workshop, followed by lunch from 12-12:30
What to Expect:
- Current and emerging trends in research funding that favour interdisciplinary approaches
- Crafting compelling grant proposals and managing your grant
- FOR codes and how to approach them
- Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
- Interactive discussions and expert Q&A
- Feedback on your 3-minute project pitch (optional, and available to those who return project pitch template by COB on May 5 and returned to SSN-info@deakin.edu.au)
This workshop is for anyone involved in securing funding for interdisciplinary research, whether they are new to grant writing or looking to enhance their approach for complex, multi-disciplinary proposals.
FACILITATOR BIOS:
Emma Kowal is Distinguished Professor of Anthropology and Co-Convenor of the Science and Society Network. She is a cultural and medical anthropologist who previously worked as a medical doctor and public health researcher in Indigenous health. She is an award-winning researcher and educator, a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, and member of the ARC College of Experts.
Toija Cinque is Associate Professor in Communications (Digital Media) in the School of Communication and Creative Arts. She is the founder of the Intelligent Media Lab, leads the Critical Digital Infrastructures and Interfaces (CDII) research group; and, is co-lead of the Data Cultures stream in the Science and Society Network (SSN).
This event is a collaboration between Deakin’s Science and Society Network (SSN) and the Researcher Development Academy (RDA).
