Designing Collaborative Computing Apps for Crowd-powered Smart Cities
The Team: Dr Niroshinie Fernando, Lubna Alam, Seng Loke, Chetan Arora
This project explores how to design human-centred software that enables collections of smart devices and humans to collaborate and share their computing resources. The proliferation of Internet-connected smart devices provides an exciting opportunity to be used as a distributed resource for computational tasks required in areas such as tactile internet, autonomous vehicles, digital health, and environmental monitoring. Although existing research focuses on technical challenges such as performance, energy-efficiency and security, the success of this paradigm depends on continued user participation. This project addresses this gap by investigating human and social factors essential for the adoption of ‘crowd computing’.
