Perpetual Pigments-sustainable colour exhibition of indigenous art from textile wastes

The Team: Associate Professor Rangam Rajkhowa, Russell Kennedy, Surya Subianto, Ben Kaminsky

Approximately 100 million tonnes of textiles end up in landfill around the world, of which about 800,000 tonnes are in Australia. The colour present in these textiles harm land and water. In addition, producing colours for textiles and other applications require chemical and energy intensive processes. In this project we will produce coloured fibre particles from end of life textiles by segregating textiles based on colour and milling in to fine particles. These particles will be used as pigments for creating arts and more specifically Australian indigenous arts. The project will combine fibre science, particle technology, design and arts.

The Team: Associate Professor Rangam Rajkhowa is joined by Russell Kennedy, Surya Subianto and Ben Kaminsky.
